Air Force Aid Society is governed by a distinguished group of volunteer Trustees comprised of current Air Force leaders and personnel, former Air Force leaders and members of the civilian community – fulfilling the vision of our founder, Gen Hap Arnold.

The Honorable William A. Moorman, Major General, USAF (Ret)

The Hon Mr. Moorman currently serves as a Federal Judge. He was nominated to become a Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, confirmed by the Senate and sworn in to the role in 2004. He joined the Department of Veterans Affairs in 2002 after retiring from active duty service, holding the position of Assistant to the Secretary, Regulation Policy and Management before his appointment. Moorman was commissioned to the U.S. Air Force through AFROTC after graduating from the University of Illinois and the University of Illinois College of Law. During his 30 years of service, he served as a staff judge advocate at wing, numbered Air Force and Major Air Command levels. He was the first staff judge advocate at U.S. Strategic Command and later served as the Air Combat Command staff judge advocate before becoming the Air Force Judge Advocate General in 1999.

 

 

 

AFAS Board of Trustees Vice President
Major General Alfred K. Flowers, USAF (Ret)

Maj Gen Flowers is currently serving as Chief Operating Officer for a small business. At the time of his retirement from 46 years of continuous active duty service in the U.S. Air Force in 2012, Flowers was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller. In this capacity, he was responsible for planning and directing Air Force budget formulations totaling more than $119 billion annually. He managed and executed funding that supported military operations and Air Force priorities at the direction of the Secretary of Defense and Congress. Flowers began his Air Force career as an enlisted supply warehouseman, eventually becoming an accounting specialist. After selection to the rank of Master Sergeant, Flowers was commissioned following graduation from Officer Training School. He held various assignments as a budget officer at squadron, major command and Air Staff levels. He holds the distinction of being the longest serving Airman on record with the USAF.

Chief of Staff, USAF
General David L. Goldfein

Gen Goldfein is Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force. He serves as the senior uniformed Air Force officer responsible for the organization, training and equipping of more than 600,000 active duty, Guard Reserve and civilian forces serving in the U.S. and overseas. Prior to this role, Goldfein was the Vice Chief of Staff for the USAF. He was commissioned in 1983 from the U.S. Air Force Academy, and is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Weapons School. Goldfein is a command pilot and has flown combat missions in operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Allied Force and Eduring Freedom.

Ms. Kathleen Barchick

Kathleen Barchick is a co-founder of Cliffwater LLC, an alternative investment advisory firm for institutional investors managing over $55 billion in private equity, hedge funds, real estate and real assets. Prior to founding Cliffwater in 2004, Barchick was a Managing Director and Principal of Wilshire Associates. She began her career with the Department of Defense Logistics Agency managing contractor performance for U.S. Air Force radar systems and later served as an acquisition officer for the USAF. Barchick holds a BS in Operations Research from the United States Air Force Academy and an MBA from the University of Southern California. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a member of the CFA Institute and the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts.

Lieutenant General Christopher F. Burne

Lt Gen Burne is The Judge Advocate General for the U.S. Air Force. In this capacity, Burne serves as the Legal Advisor to the Secretary of the Air Force and all officers and agencies of the Department of the Air Force. He oversees military justice, operational and international law, and civil law functions at every level of command. Gen Burne received a direct commission to the USAF in 1983. He has served in a variety of legal advisory and leadership positions at every level of command. For his service in three major commands – including a combat theater of operations – Gen Burne was named the 1991 Air Force Outstanding Judge Advocate of the Year. Prior to becoming The Judge Advocate General, Burne served as the Staff Judge Advocate, Headquarters Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Mr. Eli Cohen

Mr Cohen is a principal and head of alternative investments at GenTrust Wealth Management, a boutique multi-family office and registered investment advisor. He is responsible for the selection, oversight and development of alternative investment strategies including hedge fund, private equity, and other non-traditional strategies. Prior to joining GenTrust, Cohen worked at Strategi Investment Group, and outsourced investment office with over $30 billion in assets under management. Cohen received a JD from Harvard Law School and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He received an AB from Harvard College, magna cum laude in Economics.

Lieutenant General (Dr.) Mark A. Ediger

Lt Gen (Dr.) Ediger is the Surgeon General for the U.S. Air Force. In this capacity, Ediger serves as the functional manager of the USAF Medical Service, advising the Secretary of the Air Force, the Air Force Chief of Staff and the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs on matters pertaining to the health of Air Force personnel. Prior to his current assignment, Ediger served as Deputy Surgeon General for the USAF. He entered the Air Force in 1985 and, during his career, has commanded two medical groups and served as command surgeon for three major commands.

Chief Master Sergeant Dennis A. Fritz, USAF (Ret)

Retired CMSgt Fritz is currently the Contract Program Manager for the Army’s Wounded Warrior Program. During his 28 years of active duty Air Force service, Fritz served as principal advisor on readiness, morale and quality of life at two major commands and two large wings.  He also served as a key interface with DOD senior executives, Congress and the public. Fritz has held positions at all levels of the Pentagon, from Air Staff to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. His active duty career culminated at Joint Base Andrews as a Command Chief Master Sergeant.  Fritz earned his BS in Management from National-Louis University and Masters Degree in Public Management from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.

Lieutenant General Gina M. Grosso

Lt Gen Grosso is the Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services for the U.S. Air Force. In this capacity, Grosso serves as the senior Air Force officer responsible for comprehensive plans and policies covering all life cycles of military and civilian personnel management. Grosso entered the Air Force in 1986 as a Reserve Officer Training Corps distinguished graduate from Carnegie-Mellon University. She has held several command and staff positions throughout her career. Prior to her current assignment, she was Director of the Air Force Sexual Assault Prevention and Response, Office of the the Vice Chief of Staff, Headquarters USAF.

Honorable Robert F. Hale

The Hon Mr. Hale, former DOD Comptroller, is currently a Fellow at Booz Allen Hamilton. Hale has almost four decades of experience in defense related financial management. Prior to joining Booz Allen, he was nominated by then-President Obama and confirmed by the Senate as Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller). During the Clinton administration, he served as Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Financial Management and Comptroller). During his tenure – the longest serving Assistant Secretary for Financial Management in Air Force history – he helped to streamline USAF financial business processes and improve base-level financial services. Hale earned his BS in mathematics and statistics, as well as his MSc in operations research, from Stanford University.

Dr. William W. Jennings

Dr. Jennings is Professor of Finance and Investments in the Department of Management at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Jennings is the principal finance educator and senior civilian management professor, overseeing instruction to over 1,000 students each year. This role is analogous to associate dean in a typical business school. His service work and applied interests focus on tax-exempt investment issues at charities and pensions. He serves the community via several investment committees, including his role as an AFAS Trustee. His research interests focus on portfolio management. Before academia, Jennings previously worked as a private equity analyst and sports valuation analyst at Arthur Andersen & Co. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and a licensed CPA in Michigan. His doctorate degree is from the University of Michigan.

Mrs. Ellen Jumper

Mrs. Jumper is married to General John P. Jumper, the 17th Air Force Chief of Staff. A native of Virginia, Jumper earned her degree in mathematics from Mary Washington College. She worked in advertising for a brief period of time before devoting herself to Air Force spouse activities. She continues to represent and support Air Force families today as an AFAS Trustee.

Major General James F. Martin, Jr.

Maj Gen Martin is Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller, at U.S. Air Force Headquarters. In this capacity, Martin is responsible for planning and directing the formulation of the Air Force’s budgets – totaling more than $119 billion annually. He attended Mississippi State University and was commissioned to the USAF through the ROTC program. He has held numerous financial management positons throughout his career. Prior to his current role, he served as Director, Budget Operations and Personnel Directorate, Officer of the Assistant Secretary for Budget, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Financial Management and Comptroller.

Dr. Jerrold I.W. Mitchell

Dr. Mitchell is a Partner at Saltonstall & Company. He has managed domestic and international equity portfolios for endowments, foundations, pension fund and mutual funds for more than 40 years. During his career, he has been an independent director of three mutual funds, an Adjunct Professor of Finance at Brandeis University’s Business School and was elected to three terms as Commissioner of Trust Funds for the town of Wayland, MA. Mitchell earned his BA from Yale University, a JD from Harvard Law School, an MTS from the Harvard Divinity School and a D. Min from Episcopal Divinity School.

Mr. James C. Reagan

Mr. Reagan is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Leidos Holdings, Inc – a leading provider of technology solutions in national security. Prior to this role, Reagan was Senior Vice President and CFO at Vencore, Inc. He has over 20 years of experience providing executive-level financial leadership to large companies, mostly in the Washington, DC area. Reagan earned his BS in Business Administration from The College of William & Mary and his MBA from Loyola College.

The Honorable Eugene R. Sullivan

The Hon Mr. Sullivan, a graduate of the United States Military Academy, served five years in the U.S. Army before leaving to attend law school at Georgetown University Law Center. He currently serves as a partner in the Pepper Hamilton law firm in Washington, DC. His distinguished law career included terms as a White House lawyer, the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel of the Air Force and the General Counsel of the National Reconnaissance Office. In 1986, he was nominated by then-President Reagan and then installed as a Federal Judge. In 1990, then-President Bush named him the Chief Judge of a U.S. Court of Appeals. He served a five-year term as the last Chief Judge of a U.S. Court of Appeals to be designated by a U.S. President.
